Steven Johnson

Steven Lewis Johnson, age 64, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024 at his home in Clive, Iowa. Steve will always be remembered as a joyful husband and father with an enduring love for life.

Born on July 1, 1960, in Roseville, Minnesota, Steve grew up the youngest of five children to Hope Darlyne and William Johnson. He and his siblings, David, Mark, Beth, and Karen, shared a close bond that lasted through the years. As a teenager, Steve loved to spend his weekends caddying at Como Golf Course with friends. While Steve graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1982, he became an enthusiastic Hawkeye fan upon moving to Iowa.

On May 14, 1988, Steve married the love of his life, Mary Jo Marturello. The two were deeply devoted to each other for 36 years, with a love that inspired everyone around them. Steve had a deep connection with his daughter, Lauren, that brought them both strength and joy.

A degreed engineer and witty communicator, Steve began his business in electronics and technology, where he made friends from Switzerland to Taiwan. Throughout his life, he enjoyed golfing, listening to music, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes with his friends and family.

Steve is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Lauren; his siblings, David, Mark and Beth; and many loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hope and William, and his sister Karen.

A graveside memorial service will be held on December 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Glendale Cemetery (4909 University Ave, Des Moines, IA 50311)  in Des Moines, Iowa. Friends and family are welcome. A celebration of life will be announced in the coming months.
