Steven Turner, 67, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023. He was born on July 10, 1956 to Elmer and Shirley Turner in Dubuque, Iowa. Steve graduated from Iowa Lakes Community College. He worked in IT for Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville from 2005-2021. He also started his reserve officer career with the Emmet County Sheriff’s Department and later transitioned to the Estherville Police Department. As a reserve officer, he dedicated his time and energy to ensuring the safety and well-being of his community.


Steve had a deep love for the great outdoors, finding solace and joy in the tranquility of nature. Whether it was enjoying the peacefulness of a tree stand or casting his line and experiencing the thrill of reeling in a big catch, hunting and fishing were both passions of Steves. Some of his favorite moments were spent on the pontoon with family on the Mississippi River. Beyond Steve’s outdoor pursuits, Steve was a dedicated family man. He adored his wife, children, and grandchildren, and his love and support were unwavering. His family was his greatest source of pride and joy.


Steve had a passion for motorcycles, especially his Harley. He was a devoted rider and adventurer. One of his dear friends, Steve Homan, dedicated himself to curating memorable Harley trips for Steve and their cherished group of friends. Steve also had a love for playing guitar and listening to music with Johnny Cash among his top favorites.


He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Kristen; children, Steve Turner, Alicia Knode, Shannon Winkie, Kelly Zylstra, Will Roeber; grandchildren, Hunter Walders, Dane Knode, Aiden Winkie, Blake Winkie, Connor Winkie, Wyatt Zylstra, Hudson Zylstra; brothers Dan Turner, Dave (Kylie) Turner; sisters Deb (Ken) Luensmann, Peg Edge, Ann (Linda Gardner) Shelton, Pam (Dennis) Ludwig; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jim and Larry.


A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope, 520 NW 36th St., Ankeny, IA. Burial will follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the family to be designated at a later date, honoring Steve’s memory in a way that resonates with his legacy.
