Susan was born to Bess and William B. Allard in Rosiclare, IL. She attended grade and two years of high school in Illinois, part of her junior year in Glasgow, KY, and graduated from Falls City High School in 1950. She married George McLeran, Jr in Audubon, IA in 1952. He was killed in a traffic accident just two months after they were married. To this union one daughter was born, Georgia Sue. In 1956 Susan married George Kauffman of Audubon. They had one daughter, Belinda Lee. They lived in Galesburg, IL, Iowa City, Ames and Des Moines, IA. Susan was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She retired after 30 years at American Republic Ins. Co. Susan loved to laugh - the sillier to her the better. She enjoyed antiquing and estate sales and was also known for her wonderful baking skills. Survivors include her two daughters: Georgia Sue (Michael) Savage of Greeley, CO; and, Belinda Lee (Christopher) Green of Des Moines. Four grandchildren: Cody (Jeff) Stone of LaSalle, CO; Joseph (Juana) Savage of Evans, CO; Ryan (Brandon) Shade of Ramstein AFB, Germany; and, Adam (special friend, Paige Johnson) Green of Des Moines. Eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Billie Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; three nieces, Eowana Krieg of VA; Maryanne Van Dyke, AR; Lizabeth Johnson, CA; and, one nephew, Jay Johnson, AZ on her side of the family; and, many more brothers and sisters-in-laws and nieces and nephews on her husbands side. She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Bess and William Allard; two sisters, Mary Humm and Katherine Peters; and, both husbands, George McLeran and George Kauffman. Services will be held at the Central Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 17 at 9:30 a.m. Donations to Kavanagh House, 900 56th St., Des Moines, IA 50312-1806, would be welcome in lieu of flowers. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be Tuesday, January 20 at 11:00 a.m., for Susan and George Kauffman at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa.
