Services for Thelma Lucille Johnson Lane were held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2014 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Pastor Chris Tjapkes of the First Baptist Church in Perry provided words of comfort. Casket bearers were Chris Strait, Mark Collins, Lonny Ostransky, Jack Frantum, Michael Smothers and Stephen Brinton. The organist was Sue Tjapkes and soloist Darlene Roeder. Hymns chosen were I'd Rather Have Jesus and I Won't Have to Cross Jordan Alone with the congregational hymn of When the Role is Called Up Yonder. Interment took place at the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa. A lunch and time of fellowship followed at the First Baptist Church. Thelma Lucille Johnson Lane, daughter of Mae Alice Phillips and Raymond Carl Johnson was born May 15, 1921 in Perry and died January 17, 2014 at the Perry Healthcare Center at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 2 days. Thelma was raised in the Perry area and graduated from Perry High School in 1939; she then graduated from American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines with a business degree. Thelma worked for several businesses in Perry, including: Woolworth's Five & Dime store; as a receptionist for Perry Plumbing & Heating; as a receptionist for Doctor R. M. Conley and after marriage as an assistant in the Perry City Clerk's office. She also worked for a local grocery store. On February 14, 1943 Thelma married Raymond Lane in the living room of her parents' home that they later lived in until going into the Perry Healthcare Center. The couple had one son, Terry, who died on August 13, 1994. Thelma enjoyed crocheting, knitting and reading. She was a faithful member of the Perry First Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for over twenty-seven years and Youth Leader for over ten years. She also was a member of the Perry American Legion Auxiliary. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and son, Terry Ray Lane. Thelma is survived by her loving husband, Raymond Lane of Perry, and special friends Chris and Tami Strait of Granger, nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. www.hastingsfh.com
