Thelma Mae Glasscock was born December 14, 1911 in rural Gettysburg, South Dakota, the daughter of Albert (Arnie) and Eva Pearl (McGinnis) Glasscock. Thelma graduated in 1930 from Stuart Iowa High School where she excelled in all areas of music and drama. She married Homer Newton Hitchcock on her birthday in 1933. Thelma and Homer enjoyed life as farmers until they moved to Radcliffe, Iowa and founded the Hitchcock Truck Lines, where Thelma served as office manager. She stayed active in church life and devoted herself to raising her family. She moved to Winterset, Iowa to care for her mother, until her mother died. In 1988, she married LeRoy Fritz, and remained in Winterset, surrounded by many friends and loving members of the extended Fritz family. Peg Fritz welcomed Thelma into her heart and enjoyed holidays and everyday in a mother-daughter relationship. Thelma moved to Sugar Land, Texas in 2003, where she enjoyed the companionship of her daughter, Judith, her grand children and great grand children. In Texas, she also came to know her angel and devoted caregiver, Esmeralda Bilge, who always referred to Thelma as her ‘baby’ and cared for her with love, patience and kindness. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Albert, Ira and Louis; her sister Lena Pearl; and husbands Homer Hitchcock and LeRoy Fritz. Thelma was a member of the United Presbyterian Church. She was also involved in the Iris Club, Topic Club as well as TOPS. Thelma is survived by her brother, Gilbert Glasscock, of Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter, Judith A. Flowers, one son, Craig Hitchcock; five grandchildren, Michelle Koch, Annamarie Flowers-Kent, Lisa Flowers-Davis, Heather Fitzsimmons and Kent Hitchcock. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, Meghan Reynolds; Austin and Mercedes Kent; and Makenna and Ian Fitzsimmons. Visitation: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 11, 2006 at Ochiltree Funeral Service and Aftercare in Winterset. Service: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America or to Amed Hospice. Memorial: South Oak Grove Cemetery, Stuart, Iowa at a later date.
