Timothy Craig Van Cleave

November 5, 1952 — February 18, 2017

Timothy Craig Van Cleave broke free to the other side February 18, 2017. Tim, the son of Lee Edward Van Cleave and Frances Jean Bennink Van Cleave was born November 5, 1952 in Jefferson, Iowa. He grew up on his parents' farm with his sister Bonnie and his brother Tom. He graduated Perry High School in 1970. Tim married Annette Wetteland in 1971. Tim attended Iowa State University and earned his Master's Degree in Architecture. He worked, doing what he loved, for firms in Ames, Des Moines, Sioux City, Dubuque, and Minneapolis before retiring. Tim moved to the family farm to assist his parents. Tim was an avid reader, enjoyed rock and roll music, loved animals, appreciated art, and enjoyed the outdoors. He especially liked being on or near the water, fishing or canoeing. Tim was preceded in death by his grandparents: James and Fairy Van Cleave and Arthur and Jeanette Bennink; his brother Tom Van Cleave; aunts Dolores Helle and husband LeRoy; Barbara Kipp; Roberta Russell and husband Jack; and uncle Warren Bennink and wife Kathryn. His memory will be forever cherished by his parents Lee and Francis Van Cleave of Perry, IA; sister Bonnie Van Cleave of Bagley, IA; niece: Sunni Lee of Bagley, IA; nephews: Jim Van Cleave of Springfield, MO; Mike Van Cleave and wife Jessica of Fair Grove, MO; great-nieces and nephews: Angel Bunn, Mary Lee, Mitchell Van Cleave, and Lee Van Cleave; and longtime friend and companion Annette Wetteland. Tim is also survived by his aunt Bonnie Harmon and husband Jim of Grand Island NE; uncle Richard Kipp of Yale, IA; many cousins, other relatives and many friends. Memorials are suggested to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or the Perry Public Library. Funeral services for Tim were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 24, 20217 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation with his family present was one hour prior to the service. Burial was in the Prairie Center Cemetery near Linden. Rev. Paul Burrow offered words of comfort. Elta Summerson was pianist for the service and Bob Gittins sang and played guitar for selections, Angel Band and Peace In the Valley. Casket bearers were Mike Van Cleave, Mitchell Van Cleave, Sunni Lee, Trent Andrews, Shannon Bryan, and Richard Kipp. Lunch was served at the First United Methodist Church by the ladies of the church. Memorials are respectfully suggested to the Animal Rescue League or the Perry Public Library and may be mailed to Hastings Funeral Home in Perry.
