Timothy J. Osweiler

**Under tribute wall, there is a map of the plot location** Timothy James Osweiler passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the UnityPoint Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa. He had been battling cancer for more than a year. Tim was born June 7, 1950 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Cletus H. Osweiler and Donna M. Osweiler. He graduated from Dowling High School in Des Moines, Iowa and subsequently attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Science in 1972. Tim was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1972-1974, and was honorably discharged as a Specialist (Spec/4). He returned to Iowa City, where he worked from 1974 to 1985 as a Research Assistant for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Department of Pediatrics. During this time, he resumed studies at the University of Iowa, and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1983. Eventually Tim moved back to Des Moines where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1985 until retirement in 2012. Tim was an avid fisherman, and especially loved to travel every fall to snag Kokanee salmon in the rivers near Gunnison, Colorado. He was passionate about gardening, and delighted in sharing his harvest with family and friends. Tim loved road biking, mushroom hunting and his Iowa Hawkeyes. He maintained physical fitness through the martial arts, a disciplined regimen of weightlifting and routine visits to the gym. Tim loved spending time with family, especially during the holidays and on special occasions. He left us all too soon, will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered. Tim was preceded in death by his father and mother, and his brother, Stephen Osweiler. Tim is survived by his brothers Michael Osweiler (Gerry) and John Osweiler (Teri), and by his sisters Deborah Benson (Larry), Mary Osweiler (Fred), and Donna Gall (Vince), along with 5 nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service will be held at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in his name may be made to the Raccoon River Valley Trail Connector project through the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation (www.INHF.org)
