Twila J. Smith

Twila J. Smith, age 59, of Lorimor and a former long-time resident of the St. Charles area, died Monday morning, March 7, 2011, at her home. The family will be present to receive guests beginning at 9:00 a.m. Friday with funeral services starting at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 11th at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Twila’s name to be used at the discretion of the family will be appreciated. Please share a memory or condolence by signing the on-line guestbook. Twila Jean Smith, the daughter of the late Gail Lee and Norma Lynn (Mapes) Smith, was born October 11, 1951, in Winterset, Iowa. She graduated from Winterset High School. Following school Twila met her common-law-husband, Roger Fast, and together they made their home near St. Charles, Iowa, farming. Together they had three sons, Aaron, Cory, and Gabrielle. Twila also helped raise Roger’s two other sons, Galen and Brian Fast. Twila was an avid reader. She also enjoyed puzzles and crosswords. She loved her life on the farm and especially raising various kinds of animals such as goats, chickens, turkeys and peacocks. Twila is survived by her two sons, Aaron Fast of St. Charles and Cory Fast of New Virginia; two step-sons, Galen (Chris) Fast of Winterset and Brian (Cindy) Fast of Des Moines; two brothers, Rod (Dee) Smith of Carlisle and Kevin (Shari) Smith of DeSoto; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger in 2003; and a son Gabrielle in infancy.
