Velma was born April 15, 1919 in Wayne, NE, the daughter of William Earnest and Daisy May (Young) Hern. Her marriage to Clyde Willis Hendricks, Sr. took place on November 17, 1945. Clyde preceded her in death on November 7, 1978. Velma died Friday, June 30, 2006, at the Winterset Care Center South in Winterset at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Clyde, one sister, Betty Dorrell and three brothers, William Hern, Ralph Hern and Jack Hern. As well as being a homemaker and mother, Velma worked 32 years for the City of Winterset as a Clerk at city hall. She retired in 1982. Velma was a member of the First Christian Church, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, a life member of the Winterset Library and Madison County Historical Society; as well as the Winterset Art Center and Current Topic Club all of Winterset. Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Clyde Hendricks, Jr. and wife, Sue of Marion, IA; Leon Hendricks and wife, Barb of Winterset, IA; a brother, Charles Hern and wife, Mary Lou of Indianola, IA; two sisters-in-law, Vivian Hern of Waterloo, IA; Shirley Hulbert of Winterset, IA; a brother-in-law, Ronnie Dorrell of Winterset, IA; four grandchildren, Heidi Keehner and husband, Steve, Amy Becker and husband, Brian, Beth Hendricks and spouse, Lauren Carey and Jana Hendricks and husband, Mike Johnson; four great grandchildren, Jacob Keehner, Isaac Keehner, Daphne Becker and Lily Becker. Visitation: the Winterset Cemetery. Service: Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church and the Winterset Care Center South activity fund. Memorial: 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 2, 2006 at the First Christian Church in Winterset.
