Vern Collins

Vern Elwood Collins, son of Homer Collins and Frances Jackley Collins was born July 9, 1927 in Panora, Iowa and died January 11, 2005 at CLC University in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 2 days. Vern attended Panora High School and graduated with the Class of 1945. After high school, he entered the Army Airforce and served from 1945 until 1947 when he was medically discharged. Vern was united in marriage to Alma Irene Pearson on June 24, 1950, and the couple made thier home in Guthrie Center until moving to Perry in 1962. They were the parents of eight children: Connie, Beverly, Judy, Donald, David, Jeff, James, and Jerry. Vern was an employee of Oscar Mayer until retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Post #85 in Perry. Vern was preceded in death by his parents, his sons James and Jerry, daughter Judy and brother Robert Collins. He is survived by his wife Alma; daughters: Connie Savage of Perry and Beverly Randall and her husband Rich of Des Moines; sons: Donald Collins and his wife Bev of Des Moines, David Collins of Perry, and Jeff Collins and his wife Sally also of Perry; 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; brother Carl Collins and his wife Judy of Hillsboro, Oregon; many other relatives and friends.
