Verna Lucille Halverson

Verna Lucille (Strinmoen) Halverson, 90 was born November 29, 1925 to James Selmer and Louise Strinmoen in Highlandville, Iowa. Was baptized at the Big Canoe Church in December 1925 and confirmed on June 18th 1929. She attended grade school at Highlandville and graduated from Decorah High School in 1945. She then went to work at Ingvaldstack Lumber Company. She then married Mark E Halverson of Decorah at the Big Canoe Church on January 24th 1947. They lived in Des Moines for many years where Mark worked for an electrical company and Vernas most recent job was with Ardans corporate offices. Verna passed away Monday, January 18, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2016 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale. A memorial service and inurnment will be at a later date in Decorah. Survived by a son David (Carol) Halverson of Urbandale and a daughter Susan (Craig) Paine of West Des Moines, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Charlotte Strinmoen of Decorah, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Mark; daughter, Linda Phillips; two sisters, Mildred Johnson and Evelyn Krochus and three brothers Norman, Lloyd and Kenneth Strinmoen. Memorial contributions may be given to Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
