Vernon Kahler

Vernon Raymond Kahler, 83, passed away on September 6, 2020 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines, IA. Burial will be in the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD. Vernon worked for Northwestern National Insurance as an underwriter. He was member of the Knights of Columbus for 62 years. Vernon enjoyed dancing, country music, praying the rosary, playing cards and most of all spending time with his family. Vernon is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children, Mark Kahler, Deborah (David) Christensen, Daniel Kahler and Michelle (fiancé, Jason Bevers) Kahler; grandchildren, Morgan and Charlie Kahler; step-children, Julie (Jon) Busick, Richard (Gail) Billings, Cheryl (Brian) Thevenot; 7 step-grandchildren, 19 step-great-grandchildren and siblings, Gertrude, Arthur, Joseph, Robert, Rose and Linda. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith; second wife, Doris; parents, Alva and Dorothy and brothers, Benjamin and Elmer.
