Vida Ruth Kimpton Snyder was born July 18, 1915 in Taylor County, Iowa to John Ackerman and Ethel Clara (Beery) Kimpton. She grew up on a farm near Gravity, Iowa with her three older brothers, Homer, Wilbur and Paul Kimpton; her older sister, Edith (Hendrickson) and her two younger sisters, Iva (Heller) and Lois (Anderson). Vida graduated from Gravity High School in 1932. She is survived by her son, John Snyder and wife, Dorothy of Winterset; daughters, Joanne Walker and husband, Gary of Winterset and Sherri Alexander and husband, John of Centennial, CO; sister, Lois Anderson and husband, Carl of Winterset; grandchildren, Rick, Edward, Julie, Susan, Keith, Laurie and Michael; 14 great grandchildren, Michael, Chad, Monica, Bryan, Jason, Nathan, Amber, Megan, Ryan, Kathryn, Nicholas, Jordan, Chanel and Cylus; and 7 great-great grandchildren, Abby, Emma, Tatum, Cassidy, Carter, Cohen and Claire. Vida was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lex; brothers, Homer, Paul and Wilbur Kimpton; sisters, Edith Hendrickson and Iva Heller; and her great grandson, Jeremy Snyder. Lex Snyder and some of his friends drove up from Bedford, Iowa to check out the Gravity girls, and he was smitten when he saw Vida. Vida and Alexis Keith Snyder were married in Missouri, and lived in Bedford for a number of yers before moving to Missouri. In 1952 they relocated to Winterset. Lex and Vida had three children, John Edward, Joanne and Sherri Lynn. Vida loved gardening, writing poetry, listening to country music, bird watching and painting landscapes. Her favorite subjects to paint were old barns, mountains and lighthouses. Vida passed away on Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Winterset Care Center South in Winterset. She was 92.
