Vincent Mullarkey, age 84, of Winterset, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Westbridge Care and Rehab Center in Winterset. Visitation will be held at Ochiltree Funeral Services and Aftercare in Winterset from 4:00 to 7:00 on Monday, March 24, 2014. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Church in Winterset. The family will receive friends at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Lansing, Iowa on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, from 9:00 am – 10:30 a.m.,. Burial will follow the visitation at the Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing. Vince was born June 4, 1929 in Lansing, Iowa, the son of Ben and Mary (McNamara) Mullarkey. He married Dorothy O’Neill on February 19, 1952 at I.C. Church in Wexford, Iowa. Vince farmed with his parents on their farm and after three years entered the United States Army. He took his Basic Training at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas and later was deployed to Ft. Knox, Kentucky for mechanic schooling. He was then stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado. Following his discharge he was employed by Keenan Auto Sales in Lansing for four years. From there, he was Transportation Director at E.A.C.S in Lansing for 30 years. Vince served on the Lansing City Council for a number of years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. In 2004, he and his wife, Dorothy moved to Winterset to be closer to family. Surviving Vincent is his wife, Dorothy of Winterset; sons, Joseph (Mary Kay) of West Des Moines and John “Jack” (Sharon) of Waukee; five grandchildren, Megan (Jeff) Andersen of West Des Moines, Molly (Chris) Nickell of West Des Moines, Nicholas Mullarkey of West Des Moines, Kelli (Josh) Hutt of Woodward, and Keri Mullarkey of Waukee; great grandchildren, Noah and Emma Andersen of West Des Moines, Elliot and Gabriel Nickell of West Des Moines and Evan Hutt of Woodward.
