A service for Virgie Olson was held 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 11, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson, Iowa. Words of comfort were provided by Pastor David Morfitt. The casket bearers were Eric Olson, Aaron Olson, Dean Schilling, Tim Oaks, Jake Oaks, and Mark Beran. Music was provided by pianist Marilynn Hoskinson and the congregational songs were "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". Interment was in the Jefferson Cemetery. Following burial a time of lunch and fellowship was held at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson was in charge of arrangements. Virgie Mae Plagman, daughter of Albert and Minnie Luetkeman Plagman, was born August 24, 1922 in Peterson, Iowa and died November 7, 2011 in Wellington, Kansas at the age of 89. Growing up Virgie lived on a farm in Buena Vista County, Iowa. She was baptized September 24, 1922 and confirmed October 17, 1937. She graduated in 1940 from Brook Consolidated School in Peterson, Iowa. The family moved to Ames in 1942. Virgie was united in marriage to Philip Carl John Olson on November 15, 1942 in Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, Iowa. They were parents of Larry Philip, Patricia Mae, Bonnie Jean, and Janet Joan. Virgie followed Phil to Tacoma, Washington and later they made their home at Story City, Iowa on the farm. Virgie was a long time resident of Greene County where they lived for 32 years, and in 1963 they moved to Jefferson Virgie worked many years for Northern Propane as the office manager and later helped her husband with his business. Virgie especially loved her family and caring for them. She also loved her volunteer work in her church, taught a Bible Study Group for several years, and volunteered many years at the food pantry. She loved to fish, camp, crotchet, and quilt. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Fellowship Society, Sew & Sos, and Lydia Circle. She was an officer in Lutheran Women Mission League for several years and was very active in the Greene County Medical Auxiliary. Virgie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brother Leo, and her sister Leona. She is survived by her children: Larry (Cathy) Olson of Belle Plaine, IA; Patricia (Darwin "Pete") Oaks of Collins, IA; Bonnie (Darwin) Schilling of Wellington, KS; and Janet Roberts of Wellington, KS; 10 Grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren: great great-grandchild: and 1 step great grandchild. Virgie is also survived by her sister Mary Ann Barnes of Ames, IA, other relatives and friends.
