Virginia Jones

November 12, 1923 — February 3, 2009

Virginia Lee Saum was born November 12, 1923 in Jamaica, Iowa, the daughter of Leland A. and Myrtle L. (Haynes) Saum. She was a 1941 graduate of Winterset High School and on September 9, 1941 she married Hubert Jones in Maryville, MO. To this union three children were born, Garnalee, Rodney and Mindy. Survivors include two daughters, Garnalee Chandler and husband, Steve of Winterset; Mindy Dresback and husband, Rick of Creston; one son, Rodney Jones of Apache Junction, AZ; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a step-brother, Jack Easter and his wife, Jaque of Spencer and a step-sister, Lynn Provost and husband, Rick of Creston. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Hubert on February 8, 2005 and an infant brother, William Saum. Ginger was a homemaker and farm wife, raising their children and helping Hubert on their farm in Scott Township, Madison County. She was a life long Winterset area resident other than the three years she and Hubert lived in Creston. She also enjoyed being a ‘Snow Bird’ wintering in Arizona for 30 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Buffalo Gals, Rebekah-Ruth Circle and formerly a member of the Madison County Antique Association. She was also proud to be part of a special group called the Golden Girls who were all fellow graduates of the Class of 1941. Ginger died Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at West Bridge Care and Rehabilitation in Winterset. She was 85. Visitation: 1 to 8 p.m., where family will be present to received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2009 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Memorial: Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church or Ginger’s Family.
