Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson is in charge of arrangements for Virginia Minnehan, 88, of Churdan. Mrs. Minnehan died Monday at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan. Burial will be in the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in rural Churdan. Visitation begins at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the church where a CDA Rosary will be at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Virginia's family will be present at 3:30 p.m. She is survived by her daughters Mary Moothart and husband Tim of Dubuque, IA; JoAnne Lonergan and husband John of Clive, IA; and son Michael Minnehan and wife Shari of Churdan, IA. Memorials are suggested to the Churdan Library or the St. Patrick 5Historical Fund. Virginia graduated from Churdan High School and St. Anthony's School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She continued nursing at St. Anthony's Hospital until devoting herself full-time to family, church and community. Virginia Hadden was united in marriage to Robert Minnehan at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church on November 18, 1947. He preceded her in death in 2008. To this union were born three children; Mary JoAnne, and Mike Minnehan. After their marriage, they were the third generation to raise their family on the Minnehan Family Farms. Virginia was active in the Catholic Daughters of America, Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and Rosary Society assuming numerous leadership roles at the parish and diocesan levels. As an active member of the Churdan community, she co-chaired the Churdan Centennial Celebration and the St. Patrick's Church Centennial. She was a board member of the Churdan Public Library for more than 35 years. As a board member and officer of Citizens United to Save the Valley, she was part of a small but devoted group whose purpose was to preserve and maintain the Raccoon River watershed. Left to mourn her passing are her two daughters, Mary Moothart (Tim) Dubuque, JoAnne Lonergan (John) Clive; one son, Mike Minnehan (Shari) Churdan; eight grandchildren, Cara (Tyler) Droege, Matt Moothart, Michael Moothart, Tom Moothart, Ryan (Sheena) Minnehan, Sean Minnehan, Patrick (Whitney) Minnehan and Makayla Minnehan, and four great-grandchildren, Trayton Minnehan, Peyton Minnehan, Emmett Minnehan and Connor Droege. Virginia is also survived by four sisters-in-law, Leona Hadden, Carroll, Maxine Whiting, Lake City, Rosella Eischeid, Tucson, Arizona, and Norine Carroll, Coppell, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Those who also preceded her in death were her parents, Charles and Margaret Hadden, brother, Edward, and grand-daughter, Kristen Moothart
