On Sunday, May 13, 2018, Virginia I. Reed of Dallas, Texas met her Savior face-to-face. Born December 29, 1928, Virginia was the daughter of Lloyd Comp Hoeness and Blanche Marie (Howell) Hoeness of Winterset, Iowa. Virginia grew up on a farm in the Pitzer community west of Winterset. She attended school in Winterset where she was an active member of the band, played basketball and was a runner up for Homecoming Queen. She graduated from Winterset High School in May of 1946. Shortly thereafter, she met Harry Franklin Reed of Truro, Iowa. They were married on February 2, 1947 and she began her life as a wife and loving mother. From that union were born three sons, Larry Franklin (Cathy) currently residing in Charlotte, North Carolina, Dan Mark of Dallas, Texas, Randall Charles (Karen) of Kansas City, Missouri and one daughter, Sharolyn Sue Parker (Rich) of Dallas, Texas. She considered motherhood her greatest calling and was deeply loved by her 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all. Virginia was a loving wife, mother, sister (to Twyla Jackson), sister-in-law (to Dottie Reed and Doris Reed) and friend to countless Iowans and then many Texans. All who knew her loved her. She was a faithful Bible study attendee, bridge player and sang in the choir at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset where she was a long time member. She resided in Winterset for over 80 years before a stroke began to slow her. Following that she left Winterset and moved to Dallas, Texas to be closer to her daughter and son. She found a new home in a senior living center in Dallas where she could be found most evenings playing Bridge, Left Right and Center, or Bingo. She was an active member of the senior living center until she suffered a broken hip. Immediately following the surgery she suffered another stroke that would eventually take her life. Unconditional love and kindness marked her. Thoughtfulness, willingness to serve others, faithfulness, loyal and compassionate are other adjectives ascribed to her name. Those left behind will miss her. Heaven refuses to give her back. Visitation will be Friday, May 18, at New Bridge Baptist Church in Winterset from 2 to 8 PM with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 PM. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, May 19, at New Bridge Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John Shaull officiating and assisted by Pastor Tim Cole. Interment will follow at the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to her family for a future designation. “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed...” “Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 3:26–28a, 30
