W. Bunker Upton French, 65, of Indianola, Iowa died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at his home. A military graveside service will be held 9:30 a.m., Monday, March 11 at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery near Van Meter. Memorials may be directed to the Wymer VA Medical Foster Home 2004 N. 9th Street, Indianola, Iowa 50125. On-line condolences may be made to the family at www.ochiltree.com. Bunker was born March 7, 1947 in Burlington, Iowa; the son of Wayne and Beulah (Walters) Upton. He graduated from Danville High School in Danville, Iowa in 1966. Following his graduation he enlisted in the United States Marines serving in Vietnam and was discharged in 1972. He was a decorated soldier receiving the Presidential Unit Citation, a Combat Action Ribbon and Purple Hearts among others. During his working years he was a tool and die maker working in California, Arizona and New Mexico. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Winterset and loved hunting and fishing. Those left to honor his memory are his sons, David and Richard French both of Alaska; his mother, Jaye Coleman of California; siblings, Jan (Gary) Perry of California; Peggy (Duane) Siegfried of Missouri; Rollie (Lori) Ford of Texas; an Aunt, Elaine Walters of Mt Pleasant and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Randy Upton.
