Walter Babb

Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson handled the services for Sam Babb. Walter Charles Babb, son of Walter Babb and Wilma Harriet Davis Babb, was born June 5, 1945, in Jefferson, Iowa, and died March 4, 2012 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa, at the age of 66. Walt or Sam as he was lovingly known, attended Rippey Schools and graduated from East Greene High School in 1963. He married Pamela Doyle October 11, 1963 and they later divorced. Walt farmed north of Jefferson from 1966 to 1976. He received his B.A. degree in Ag Journalism from Iowa State in 1978. On July 27, 1984, Walt married Judy Burton. They lived in Charles City where he worked for Salisbury Labs in marketing and sales. In 1988 they moved to Worthington, MN where he continued his career with Oxford Laboratories. Walt and Judy made their home in Jefferson from 1994 to 1999 and then moved to Boone. Walt's greatest joy was his family. He dearly loved his wife and each and every child and grandchild. Walt was an avid reader, enjoyed spending time outdoors at the family farm and liked to tinker in his shop. He was very personable and made friends easily. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Wilma. Walt will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife Judy of Boone, IA; children Felicia Cass (Harrison) of Waterloo, IA; Bill Babb (Michelle) of Seattle, WA; Jodi Armstrong (Bill) of Rochester, MN; Kurt Burton (Jen) of Charles City, IA; and Kelli Phillips (Eric) of New Richmond, WI; his precious grandchildren: Emily Hoff; Benjamin Hoff; Matthew Armstrong; Nathan Armstrong; Katie Armstrong; Sarah Armstrong; Cade Phillips; Mya Phillips; great grandchild Peyton Geert; sister Joan Higgins (David) of Grand Junction, IA; sister-in-law Jeanne Picht (Shawn) of Charles City, IA; nieces, nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
