Walter E. Jacobs, 90, of Winterset, died Friday, November 9, 2018 at West Bridge Care & Rehab in Winterset. A visitation with family present will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 11, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 12, at the funeral home with burial to follow in the St. Charles Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to West Bridge Care and Rehab in Winterset and online condolences can be left at ochiltree.com. Walter Eugene Jacobs was born November 11, 1927 at home in New Virginia, Iowa, the son of George Emmett and Helen Fern (Souders) Jacobs. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1946 and married Dorothy Janice Hulbert at George Jacobs’ home in rural Lorimor on September 25, 1949. Walter worked for Solar Air Craft, Delevan Manufacturing and also worked as a custodian for the I-35 Schools. He was a member and past Master of the Masonic Model Lodge #315 as well as a member of Eastern Star Model Chapter #315. He enjoyed camping, fishing and was a member of the Rolling Wheels Camper Club. Walter loved to tinker in the garage. He was a shade tree mechanic and jack of all trades, who could build anything. Above all else, Walter cherished the time spent with family and friends and especially loved the time with his grandchildren. Walter is survived by his children, Martin (Evelyn) Jacobs of Gowrie and Gayle “Jake” (Barb) Jacobs of Harrison, AR; daughter-in-law, Lori Aldrich of St. Charles; sisters, Joanne (Mike) Gibson of Norwalk and Twyla (Dennis) Loury of Afton; brothers, Glendale “Jake” (Carol) Jacobs of Winterset, Russell (Sue) Jacobs of Winterset, and Orlo Jacobs of Des Moines; 7 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Fern Jacobs; his wife, Janice Jacobs; son, Ronald Jacobs; and sister, Virginia (Gene) Decker.
