Walter Ned Terry, 79, passed away in the early morning of August 10, 2014 from complications of cancer at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. His family will hold a private celebration over the Labor Day Weekend at Leisure Lake. Donations can be made to Mercy Hospice. Ned was born on June 6, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa to Walter Lesley Buck Terry and Ellen Jeanetta Marie Parker. He attended both Lincoln High School and Alonso High School in Tampa, Florida. His family often traveled between Iowa and Florida while he was growing up. He was a member of both high schools marching bands, playing the coronet. Ned loved the outdoors. He hunted and fished as often as possible. Rode motorcycles, 3 wheelers, dune buggies and snowmobiles. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason and a Lifetime Member of Pioneer Masonic Lodge Des Moines. He enjoyed life to the fullest by being a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple in Des Moines and Amara Shrine Temple in West Palm Beach, Florida. While in both temples he was a member of the Oriental Band splitting his time between playing a Musset and being the director. He worked as a Sheet Metal Worker retiring in 1997 and was able to split his time between Clewiston, Florida and Leisure Lake, Missouri. He was married to Darlene June Heiselmen for 32 years and he had his children Danny (Renee) Terry, Grimes, Doug Terry, Des Moines and Nedra (Dale) Hoover, Mitchellville. He later married Dorothy Dottie Jewell and was married for 27 years when she passed away in September of 2013. Ned was survived by his three children, six grand-children Jack, Justin, Trevor, Jessica, Anna and Nick and 11 great grand-children. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Ned Lesley, sisters Caroline Murphy and Juanita Brazelton.
