Wanda Marie (Neal) Palmer, 89, of Winterset, died Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, September 8th at Ochiltree Funeral Service. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church and/or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Wanda Marie Neal was born October 17, 1924 southeast of Winterset, Iowa to Frank and Hazel (Lindsley) Neal. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1942. She was united in marriage to Donald Lee Palmer on January 31, 1944 in Princeton, Missouri and to this union, three children were born. Don and Wanda were married for 61 years prior to his death in 2005. Wanda worked at JC Penney in Winterset, she was a receptionist for Dan Gallery, Dr. Griswold in Winterset, and retired from IMT Insurance in Des Moines. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who remained very active all her life. She and her husband enjoyed years of ballroom dancing, bowling and spending winters in Arizona and Texas. Wanda was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of United Methodist Women and the Legion Auxiliary. She loved to read, could play the organ by ear, was a talented comfort-food cook, kept an immaculate home, and was a loyal Hawkeye football fan! She is loved and will be missed by two children, Ron (Leann) Palmer of Cumming and Steve (Pam) Palmer of Winterset; five grandchildren, Scott (Kelly) Davis, Ed (Deborah) Henderson, Elizabeth Chapin, Erin (Nate) Ruhland, and Nick (Christina) Palmer; seven great-grandchildren, Breeanna Chapin, Byron and Blake Perkins, Jake and Justin Davis, Jackson Ayer, and Mavis Palmer; a sister-in-law, Marge Patterson; nieces, nephews, several cousins, and many dear friends. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; her daughter, Connie Davis; a grandson, Jonathan Palmer; triplet great-granddaughters, Faith, Hope and Kylie Davis; a brother, Willis Neal; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Neal, Lois Howard, and Helen Goad; a brother-in-law, Max Palmer; and a niece, Jaynie Goad Miller.
