Warren S. Burchfield

July 11, 1910 — October 23, 2005

Warren Summerson Burchfield, son of Albert A. Burchfield and Alice Hiawassee Summerson Burchfield, was born July 11, 1910 in Lincoln Township south of Dawson, Iowa and died October 23, 2005 at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry, Iowa at the age of 95 years, 3 months and 12 days. Warren attended school in Dawson. He married Louise Maude Hay on August 23, 1939 at Adel, Iowa. They were parents of twin daughters: Jean and Jane. Warren and Louise farmed south of Dawson until moving into Perry in 1984. Louise died in 1991 and Warren continued to live in their home until 2003 when he entered the Rowley memorial Masonic Home. Warren was a member of the Dawson United Methodist Church, the Otley Masonic Lodge, and was a former member of the Jamaica Easter Star and the Shrine. He enjoyed his life on the farm and in the 1950's was named "Farmer of the Year" by the Kiwanis Club. He was so proud and pleased to be farming his Century Farm which was dedicated in 1981. He fulfilled his sense of community obligation by serving on the Dawson School Board. He also served as a Dallas Township Trustee and was on the Board of Election. Warren also enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and working crossword puzzles. Warren was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Louise; 2 half-sisters and 3 half-brothers. He is survived by his daughters: Jean Rich and her husband Eldred of Grand Junction, Colorado and Jane Heinz and her husband Roland of Dawson, Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Thomas Rich of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; Thalia Rich of Brooklyn, New York; Joel Heinz and his wife Denise of Dawson; and Cynthia Blakeman and her husband Bernie of Dawson; 6 great-grandchildren: Jacob Heinz and his wife Emily; Matthew Heinz; Michael Heinz; Melinda Blakeman; Luke Blakeman; and Elizabeth Blakeman; two nephews: Jim Burchfield of Perry and Robert Burnham of Linden; other relatives and many friends.
