Wayne Wallace Griffith was born May 17, 1928 in Madison County, Iowa, to Ersie and Edna (Chase) Griffith. He was a 1945 graduate of Winterset High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. His marriage to Joan J. Brooker took place on July 30, 1950 at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Doc is survived by his wife, Jodi Griffith of Winterset; his daughters, Sandi Cook and her husband, Mark of West Des Moines; Terri Kuhns and her husband, Terry of Winterset; two grandchildren, Kelsey and Jordan Kuhns and a sister, Kathryn Haymond of Winterset. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters (Thelma Griffith, Robert Griffith, Paul Griffith, Frank Griffith and Mary Busch). During his working career, Doc owned and managed the Phillips 66 station in Winterset and in 1962 founded Doc’s Soft Water and retired in 1985. Following his service in the Army during the Korean War, Doc joined the Iowa National Guard and retired after 24 years of service as a Lieutenant Colonel. Doc attended the First Christian Church of Winterset and was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion both of Winterset. He was also a member of the Winterset Lions, the Winterset Country Club and had served on the Madison County Hospital board. He loved playing cards, golfing and wintering in Arizona.
