Wayne Kraack of Winterset, died Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines. He was 66 years old. As per Wayne’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no services. Memorials in his name may be directed to the American Legion. Wayne Kurtis Kraack was born in Fort Dodge on July 9, 1951, the son of Wayne and Bonnie (Brockman) Kraack. Wayne served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he was a combat engineer. During his working years, Wayne was employed with various construction companies in central Iowa. He was not one to join groups but rather enjoyed time with family and friends. He was a member of the American Legion, American Legion Riders and V.F.W. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed being out in nature. His daughter recalls many walks with her dad as the two of them enjoyed being together and taking in the beauty of nature. Wayne is survived by a daughter, Kristina (Alan) Benshoof of Winterset; two sisters, Cathy Kraack of California and Cindy (George) Pierce of Panora; and three grandchildren, Jonnie, Nick and Ryan Benshoof. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and a daughter, Crystal Kraack.
