Wayne William Werner was born Oct. 22, 1952 to Margaret (Love) and Max Werner at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Perry, Iowa. Wayne grew up on the family farm with his parents and three sisters. He attended the Perry School system and graduated from PHS in the class of 1970. He helped his father farm the homestead for several years. He worked at Dons Mobil pumping gas. Wayne joined the Army National Guard shortly after graduation and served for many years. He drove school bus for the Perry School System for years and then got on with Dallas County Road Division, retiring from there. After retirement he also drove semi for the US Postal Service. Wayne enjoyed watching John Wayne western movies, classic cars and tractors, and old time Rock n Roll. He also liked keeping in touch with his classmates. Wayne married Veronica (Sheets)Harvey in 1974 and adopted her two daughters, Valissa and Jennifer. Wayne and Veronica had two daughters together, Heidi and Kisha. When their marriage ended he married Vickie Defenbaugh and took on fathering her two boys, Ronnie and John. When their marriage ended he married Lesa Tallman and took on fathering her three children, Krystal, Douglas, and Meagan Burkhart. Wayne lost his wife, Lesa, to a long fight with cancer. He held that fatherly status to all his children and stepchildren till his passing. He loved his family dearly. Wayne served as an driver operator, and ERT on the Perry Fire Department for 1982-2013. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, one sister- Sheila, his wife- Lesa, and two grandsons- Dakota Hoffman and Kamdyn Hike. He is survived by his sisters Carol(Dwight)Brown of Altoona and Brenda(Denny)McLuen of Tennessee, his children Valissa Werner of WDM, Jennifer(Mathew) Spooner of Ogden, Heidi Miller of Rippey, and Kisha (Brett) Niebuhr of Woodward, step children- Ronnie Jr Defenbaugh of Perry, John(Jodi)Defenbaugh of Perry, Krystal Burkhart of Yale, Douglas Burkhart of DM, and Meagan Burkhart of Perry. Wayne's extended family includes 27 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Despite being divorced he still remained friends with and considered both Veronica and Vickie as his family. Not a day went by that Wayne didn't consider all of them as equal and his children, despite blood. Wayne was known as DAD or POPS by all the friends that came around. Visitation was held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry with family present from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services were held 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2023 also at the funeral home.
