Wilfred Eugene Lansman

November 17, 1928 — January 3, 2018

Wilfred Eugene Lansman, son of Christen Lansman Jr. and Barbara Susan Gaskill Lansman, was born on November 17, 1928, in Omaha, Nebraska and died January 3, 2018, at the Long Term Care Center in Jefferson, Iowa, at the age of 89 years, 1 month, and 17 days. Wilfred's funeral was 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Rippey with Rev. Paul Burrow officiating. The pianist was Marjorie Vannatta. The soloist was Melodee Graven. At a young age, he moved with his family to a farm near Audubon, Iowa, where he was raised. It was here that he met his wife Lucille who was a country school teacher a few miles from his house. Lucille and her students were out selling seeds one night in the rain and Wilfred offered to give them a ride home. He asked Lucille out on a date which led to marriage on February 1, 1947. They were the parents of four children: Kathileen, Wilfred Jr., Chris and Philip. Wilfred and Lucille lived in Coon Rapids and Guthrie Center until making their home in the Rippey area in 1955. Wilfred farmed until his retirement in 2005. He remained on the farm until he moved to the Gardens in Jefferson in April 2017. Wilfred enjoyed fishing and music. He traveled to Minnesota yearly to fish with his family and would host a fish fry after returning home with his catch. He shared his love of music by singing and playing his guitar at twelve area nursing homes. Once a month for eighteen years, he and Lucille hosted the Country Music Jamboree in Yale. He enjoyed playing for church and entertaining at many other local events. Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lucille, son Wilfred Jr., his brothers LaVern and Gerald and sister Velma Wilson. He is survived by his daughter Kathileen Young of Denver, Colorado; sons Chris and wife Marilyn of Grand Junction, Philip and wife Teresa of Williamsburg; daughter-in-law Susan Lansman of Rippey; eight grandchildren Monica Young and husband Wilmer Noganosh, Melissa Young, David Lansman, Dean Lansman and wife Heather, Chad Lansman and wife Teresa, Tracey Lansman, Natalie Stevens and husband Brett, and Lucas Lansman and wife Tracy; fifteen great-grandchildren Allison (Zach), Dylan, Grason, Kasha, Morgan, Logan, Christopher, and Savannah Lansman, Raven Shadow, Georgia, Stella and Louise Stevens, Kasandra Lentz, Ashley Riphagen, and Kaleb Lentz; and brother Richard of Perry.
