William Brewer

William Brewer, age 96 of Adel, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2020 at the Rowley Masonic Community in Perry, IA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Minburn United Methodist Church. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 8, 2020 beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Minburn United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery at Minburn. William Goodwin Brewer was born on July 31, 1923 at Des Moines, IA to Harry C. and Laura (Shirley) Brewer. In 1940, he graduated from the Washington Township School, Minburn, IA. Mr. Brewer enlisted and served in the United States Navy from December 26, 1943 to May 11, 1946. After serving in the U.S. Navy he returned home and began farming and was united in marriage to Marilyn J. Klever. He was a member of the Minburn United Methodist Church and a 70-year member of American Legion Post #99. Additionally, he served twenty-six consecutive years as a Director of the Minburn Telephone Board and eight years as a Director of the Minburn Cooperative Elevator. William also participated in 4-H at the county and state level during his youth and was a member of the Iowa Farm Bureau. He enjoyed traveling, reading, fishing, following college sports and playing golf, including two holes-in-one. In death he rejoins his wife Marilyn, parents Harry and Laura, sister Doris Carlson and a brother, Bernard Brewer. Left to cherish William's memory are his sons, Thomas (wife Mary) Brewer of Adel, IA, Wayne Brewer of Lady Lakes, FL, and Donald Brewer of Portland, OR; grandchildren Jill Brewer, Jennifer Brewer, Erica (husband Kristian) Carrico, Nicole (husband Hank) Brewer Xi, Jessica (husband Jamie) Johnson, and Rebecca (husband Scott) Russell; 6 great grandchildren and a brother, Harry Jr. Brewer, Adel, IA.
