William (Bill) Carl Radke, 81, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Care Center North in Winterset, Iowa. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Van Meter with burial at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Bill was born on August 31, 1935 in Van Meter, Iowa to Carl and Esther Radke. After graduating from Van Meter high school, he started farming and then moved to Des Moines to work as a mechanic for Betts Cadillac. After working as a mechanic for 17 years, Bill returned to farming and trucking in the late 1970’s, which he continued to do until retiring. He loved dancing and watching Iowa basketball, but most of all loved the farm life and taking care of his cattle. He was a past president of the Booneville COOP, a member of the Iowa Cattleman’s Association and lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He is survived by his brothers Don (Marty) Radke of McKinney, TX; Bob (Nancy) Radke of Van Meter; his sister Maryann (Tom) Duax of Urbandale; his children, Mark (Jolene) Radke of Ankeny; Diane (Dean) Zegland of Coon Rapids, MN; Sherry (Bryan) Herold of Indianola; Linda Jefferies of Clive; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Esther (Boos) Radke, his partner of many years Leona Lyon, and his son-in-law John Jefferies.
