William S. 'Bill' Holland

January 1, 1928 — November 2, 2017

William S. Holland, 88, of Lorimor, Iowa, died Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines, Iowa. Memorial graveside services will be held 12:30 PM Wednesday, November 22, at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. A celebration of his life will be held directly following the memorial service at the Van Meter American Legion Hall. Bill was born on November 3, 1928, at Decatur, Illinois to Stanley and Lucy (Ewing) Holland. He was married on Dec. 7, 1957 at Jacksonville, IL to Marianne Schulz. To this union were born two children. They have lived in Madison County since 1978. Bill had been a draftsman for a former concrete company in Des Moines. They were members of the Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Van Meter. Bill served in the US Army during WW II. Bill is survived by his wife, Marianne Holland of Lorimor; children, Annamarie Holland of Des Moines and Merle C. (Joyce) Holland of Des Moines; grandchildren, Anita M. Holland, Stephanie (Josh) Chronley, Bridgette Holland, and Nick (Brooklyn) Holland; and great grandchildren, Kaleb and William Chronley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Lucy (Ewing) Holland; and brother, Fred Holland. Memorials may be directed to his family for a future designation. Funeral arrangements are being handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
