Wilma Lorraine Hollar, daughter of John J. Miers and Katherine Marie Marks Miers, was born November 4, 1922 at Mount Lake, Minnesota and died April 13, 2017 at the Avoca Specialty Care Center in Avoca, Iowa. She was 94 years, 5 months and 9 days. A celebration of life services will be held at 11a.m. Saturday April 29, 2017at Hastings Funeral Home, Perry, Iowa. Her daughter-in-law Pastor Carolyn Hollar, United Methodist Retired, Sun Lakes, Arizona will conduct the services, the musician will be Elta Summerson and the hymns will be Amazing Grace and On Eagles' Wings with burial at Union Cemetery, Guthrie Center, Iowa next to her husband. A time of lunch and fellowship will be at the United Methodist Church on Willis and 3rd St. before going to the cemetery. Wilma's family moved to Panora, Iowa where she finished her schooling. She was united in marriage with Dale Keith Hollar October 9, 1940 at the Christian Church Parsonage in Guthrie Center, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three children, Gary, Judy and Peggy. Wilma and Dale farmed northwest of Guthrie Center and later moved west of Yale to farm. When the children were young, Wilma was a stay-at-home mother. Being a talented seamstress, Wilma sewed for her children. Through the years, she enjoyed different crafts and cross-stitch. Wilma was an avid reader. In 1949, they moved to Perry. After her children were raised, she worked as a retail clerk for Woolworth's Five and Dime and later for Spurgeon's Ready to Wear. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. After Dale's death on March 5, 2004, Wilma continued to live in Perry until she moved to an apartment in Shelby, Iowa where she enjoyed being close to her daughter Peggy. Later she moved to Avoca, Iowa and made her home at the Avoca Assisted Living. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, granddaughter Susan A. Kirkhart, great-great-granddaughter Lynn Elbert, sister Yvonne Royer and brother John Miers Jr. Wilma is survived by and will be greatly missed by her son Gary Hollar (Carolyn) of Sun Lakes, Arizona; daughters Judy Skinner of West Des Moines, Iowa; and Peggy Klahn (Fred) of Shelby, Iowa. Wilma's eight grandchildren will also cherish her memory, Jane Cummings (Chris); Mike Skinner; Dave Hollar (Jackie); Dawn Bauer (Ron); Janna Sharp (Jon); Dustin Kirkhart (Chesley); Julie Johnson (Chris); Jessica Rold (Jason); 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
