Wilma Maxine Busch

Wilma Maxine Busch was born in Madison Township, Madison County, Iowa on September 25, 1916. She was the only child of Walter Vernon and Corgie May McDonald Bennett. Her elementary schooling was at West Union #8 in Madison Township. She graduated with the Normal Training Class of 1934 from the Winterset High School and taught in the rural schools in Madison County, including the Bennett Stone School. On June 11, 1938, she was united in marriage to Roy L. Busch at the Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa, by Dr. Bacon, then becoming a housewife living in Douglas and Lincoln Townships. In early years, Wilma attended the Worthington and Fairview churches. Later, she became a member of the United Methodist Church in Winterset. She belonged to a number of organizations including: the Madison County Antique Club, Crown Rebekah Lodge #360, The Past Noble Grands Club of that Lodge, The United Methodist Women’s Society, Farm Bureau, the Madison County Historical Society, the Good Neighbor Club of Lincoln Township, and the Golden Opportunity Club. She also did a lot of volunteer work at the nursing homes. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Wilma is survived by a daughter and husband, Marilyn Ann and Curtis Myers of Des Moines, IA, a son Denny L. Busch of Saint Joseph, MO, and four grandchildren: Deborah and husband, Howard Taylor of Milo, IA; Pamela Myers of Des Moines, IA; Michael Myers of Winterset, IA and Kristin Myers of Des Moines, IA. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Mark, Laura, Bryan, David and Josiah Taylor all of Milo and Thomas and Nicholas Hathaway and Logan Myers all of Des Moines, IA. Wilma’s main purpose in life was being close to her family and friends. She enjoyed antiques as a hobby. After her husband’s death, she managed the farms to try to carry on his work, and always had time to meet old and new friends. Wilma died, Friday, September 2, 2011 at her home on her farm in Lincoln Township, Madison County, Iowa. She was 94 years old. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 6 in the Winterset Cemetery, Winterset, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm, Monday, September 5 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where her family will be present during this time. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Madison County Historical Society, the First United Methodist Church and Middle River Hospice all in Winterset.
